Due to ill health, Ron has ended his incredible run streak of 52 years and 39 days without a day off.
The former European, Commonwealth and Boston Marathon Champion began the streak in December 1964 and has lasted 19,032 consecutive days.
Commenting on the end of the Streak, Ron said “On Saturday I went out for my regular morning run and after 400m my heart started to hurt. By the time I got to one mile I really didn’t feel good and to be honest thought I was going to die,”
“I was in such pain and I thought in respect of my wife, two sons and friends I need to stop this. So on Sunday the kit wasn’t put on, the shoes not laced up and I didn’t run.”
“I’m currently having medical consultations, following a period of prolonged ill health, so I can get back on my feet. I am looking forward to getting back out there!”
“That said I’d like to thank everyone for their well wishes and for reaching out to congratulate me for my run streak, the response has been overwhelming.”
